Witchtanic Hellucinations...

Picture
Hello again! Today, I'm going to be taking a look at Witchtanic Hellucinations, by the wonderfully out there Acid Witch.

THE BASICS: Witchtanic Hellucinations (I'm going to call it WH) is an album packed full of sludgy doom riffs, death metal Demilich-esque vocals, and plenty of cartoonish Halloween Witches.

THE GOOD- The riffs. Oh, the riffs. So heavy I dropped my laptop after 30 seconds of their songs. Swamp Spells in particular is oozing with guitar magic. I'm also a big fan of the vocals here. They match very nicely with the rest of the instruments. Overall, I think Acid Witch sound like Demilich+Electric Wizard, with their very own little flair.I think the album cover is awesome! I'd love to see these guys make a music video. I can guarantee you it would be AWESOME.

THE BAD- WH is probably not everyone's cup of tea. Plus, this is not the album you're going to want to play when words like "Fast" and "Uplifting" are what you're going for.Sometimes I feel like the whole witches thing also gets a little monotonous at times.

THE CHEESE- WARNING: These guys are very cheesy. This entire album is about... well... Witches. We're talking those Halloween witches with the green skin that you see on kid's decor and candy wrappers. Here are some song titles: Broomstick Bitch (my favorite), Rabid Werewitch, and Witches' Tits. Yep. No comment. But, as I mentioned earlier, I like cheesy stuff, so it's all good!

THE VERDICT- If you are a fan of this sort of thing, then there is a good chance you will find this introduction to the Witchblood Cult very enjoyable. If you aren't, then still give it a shot, you never know! Overall: 8.5/10 stars.

How could you, Kurt?

Well, well... My first ever actual post! Anyways, I'm going to get right to it.

In Utero, by Nirvana.
It might possibly be the most influential thing (to me, at least) that has ever gone through my ears. Where to start?

Anyways, I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Much better than Nevermind, in my opinion. The boys from Seattle most certainly know what they are doing. Actually, probably not, but that's okay for me.  My favorite songs are most certainly "Pennyroyal Tea", "Heart Shaped Box", and "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge on Seattle." Some of my favorite lyrical snippets of all time came from the songs on here. Example: I am my own parasite/ I don't need a host to live" (Milk It). That, my friends, is poetry at its finest. Plus, the guitar tabs are fun to play, and all of the songs are fun to sing along to. Oh, and the video makes about as much sense to the average listener as why someone would eat Ranch Dressing on Spaghetti! That means it's awesome.

Overall, definitely worth a listen. 9.5/10 stars. Why did I chop off half a point? Because Kurt Cobain's dead, and he can't make any more songs. Damn you Kurt.
